Mission: Improbable
Stage 1: Introduction
So, I was bored today at work, because everyone was like sick or something and the only thing I could do was some maintenance stuff.
I was sorting up old sawblades that have been discarded due to age etc, and my mind was drawn to HL2’s sawblades (naturally, I’m a gamer-nerd… and crazy) and I was thinking “I really need to do something with this”. So, I asked if I could take one… I could’ve taken them all if I wanted to… but eh… no.
So, my plan was… let’s make a clock! A clock with a HL logo, maybe even the HL2 logo. This is also why the title is “Mission: Improbable”, because if I know myself right… it’ll go to hell.
A pic of all the stuff:
So, why the CDs? Well, since the hole in the sawblade is so big, it would be really hard to attach the clockwork in a good way, and a CD is just the right size for that.
Stage 2: Planning
So, I washed up the sawblade as good as I could, just to get the worst of the crap off it, and let me tell you, it was hard. Pointy things make ouchie.
So, I measured it in all kinds of ways and drew it up in Photoshop, trying to avoid all the holes and whatnot that are in the blade.
And a quick thing to kinda see what it would look like, but the angle wasn’t exactly perfect, but meh.

So what’s next? Well, I gotta get the clockwork to stay in hole in the CD, which isn’t that hard, then I need to glue the CD to the sawblade. But first I need to print, cut out and paint all the numbers on the sawblade. If I feel like it, and figure out how to do it, I’m gonna replace the arrows, too. Crowbars perhaps? Stay tuned.
Stage 3: Picking up the pieces (Not as dramatic as it sounds.)
So, now all I gotta do is collect all the pieces I need to build it. I got some bolts and stuff that I’m going to use to build the suspension in which it will hang. And I also got a thingamabob that will help me screw the CD onto the clockwork. Now, what I’m lacking is paint and glue that’ll stick to both plastic and metal… for free =P I am so not going to pay a dime for this clock.
Oh, and I got a new sawblade, one that’s not as bruised as this one. So, the old one is going to be used as a test to see what glue will work.
Update
Well, I’ve run into some problems… Mainly that the only black paint I could get ahold of doesn’t attach to the metal… and on the CD it looks horrible. Aaaaand trying to cut out the numbers from the paper is proving to be quite a task.
I’ll post some pics when… or if I can manage to paint the numbers on there… which will mean it’s more or less finished. =P
Stage 4: The Secret Level
Right. Indeed. This thing went smooth and fast. Quite.
So, time to go back a few steps; the colouring went horribly, so I scrapped that idea. Whole project was put on ice because I was to annoyed by it that I forgot about it.
Found it again when I was cleaning, so I decided to pull myself together and finish the damn thing.
So, rethinking what had to be done, I went a different route. Instead of trying to paint the numbers on, I’ve ordered some metallic numbers, a new clockwork, and some new …point…thingies.. you know. So, I expect them to arrive sometime next week, and I’ll update you by then.
Stage 4b: Hold yer horses
So, when I look at the stuff I’ve gotten, and I’ve painted the numbers black (They were golden, which doesn’t go well with the grey.) and a scrap-cd, I kinda have a feel how I’ll do the whole thing.
Now, I don’t know if I can manage to make the HL2 logo thing… I’ll have to see what I can do, since I decided to go with the metallic numbers instead of painting the numbers on it, it kinda forced me to rethink the whole idea. If my brain had worked when I ordered, I would’ve though of the fact that I could have used the spraypaint to paint the numbers on… but then again I still have the problem of cutting out the numbers from the paper.
So, we shall see what happens. I’ll take a picture when I decided how to go forth.. and the paint has dried.
Anyone want to buy one? I can get ahold of about 40+ sawblades if I like =P
